LOTR anxiety

Crunchy
With the recent release of Harry Potter I took note as to how much needed to be trimmed from the story in order to get the movie down to only 2 1/2 hours. Harry potter and the Philosophers stone was a short book. I read it in a day and a half. The first part of Lord of the Rings (The Fellowship of the Ring) is two whole books, both of which are longer and more densely packed than Harry Potter was.

What does this mean for the LOTR movie? How much is going to need to change for length purposes? How much are they going to change to update the gender roles and ethnic biases?

They can probably just cut out all that boring Elf lineage crap.

And all that boring poetry.

And since we can actually hear the characters speak, we don't have to wade through 151 descriptions of Elves' voices as "clear".

Are you quite finished?

Bacon
Yeah, for now.
