Of course, following that logic, you have to wonder why he didn't just get some mail-order steaks and a hibachi and go to town.
Then again, maybe he was independently wealthy, and the whole Roadrunner thing was an eccentric hobby. I'm guessing he actually ate pretty well. In fact, I'm willing to bet the Roadrunner was on his payroll, and it was all just this sick "Most Dangerous Game" type thing.
