So, last night my shoes were stolen by a drunk friend of mine, and placed outside. She of course, being drunk, forgot all about this until the next day at lunch when she saw me without shoes on. Here's my problem. It rained. A lot. And my shoes are soaked. I put them in the dryer before work, and they made a HORRIBLE noise. Are shoes bad for dryers?

There is an odd conundrum regarding this particular subject on the Internet. First, it should be noted that 'shoes in the dryer' has become a sort of short hand for horrible noises, more specifically that of unsynchronized beats, such as in the case of two records playing at once. Most interesting.

On to the matter at hand, however. In combing the Internet, I find that most common are admonishions against ever putting shoes in the dryer. Most experts suggest removing any insoles and stuffing with paper towel or newspaper. Fair enough.
However, I also find several references to putting athletic shoes in the dryer along with sleeping bags or pillows, in order to 'fluff them up'. The pillows, I'd assume, as fluffy shoes aren't in high demand.

So, by using reverse logic, it's perfectly safe to put your shoes in the dryer, so long as there is a sleeping bag in there as well. Best of luck with it, sir.
