The Strength of Garafolo

EngineerJosh
Ahem.

"But I won't stick my head in the sand and have history roll right over me. I refuse to allow my government and the mainstream media to bully me into accepting a war that is immoral and illegal. If it means people make fun of me or think I'm a jerk, you know what, that means nothing to me."

Interesting, accept for:

"Appeasement activist Janeane Garofalo says she might quit protesting U.S. policy on Iraq because she's being harassed, and she complains that Hollywood leftists who speak out don't get enough respect.

Addressing a panel on media coverage of the war in Manhattan, the comedian-turned-foreign-policy-expert said Monday that she might "just bow out for the rest of [her] life," according to New York's Newsday. Garofalo complained that she's had to change her home phone number after getting several harassing calls."

and,

"Comedienne-turned-peace-activist Janeane Garofalo offered a stunning admission on Sunday, explaining that she and her fellow anti-war protesters didn't stage huge demonstrations when President Clinton launched attacks on Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan and the Sudan because "it wasn't very hip" to protest the former president."

Okay, what I said when I was asked, by Tony Snow, on Fox News, bastion of journalistic integrity, why I didn't protest Clinton's policies was "I absolutely did. I did not support Operation Desert Fox. It's just that you didn't know me very well back then. Nobody really was interested in listening to me back then... It wasn't very hip."

This was on TV, mind you. So maybe I meant that it wasn't hip to listen to me back then. Maybe I meant that I didn't get press because it wasn't hip to have wall to wall war coverage at the time. Maybe I did mean that some people didn't protest because it wasn't hip. But I never said that I didn't protest.

But you don't know what I meant, because all you've got is a snippet from a television transcript, with no context whatsoever.

And with that kind of treatment, is it any wonder why maybe I'm tired of this?

Isn't it awful when people twist your words around and make you say things you really didn't?
Janeane Garofalo
Yeah, you, you stay away from me.
EngineerJosh
Those are really spectacular...

Were you saying something?
Richard Perle
I was saying how awful it is when people twist your words around and make you say things you really didn't.
