CNN has a poll asking if the government should bail out Amtrak. Like half the respondants voted no.

Do these fucking people all live in Idaho on a goddamn potato farm or something? Have they *seen* the traffic? Are they remotely aware of how much the government spends on roadway repair anyway? Bail out Amtrak? Shit, we should be laying track 24/7 all across the country! Now that air travel sucks more than ever, taking a train would be a viable alternative if they went more places. Instead of voting "no" to bailing out Amtrak, these people voted "yes" to "Please, sir, I'd like some more fucking traffic on this road."

Not that I'm bitter.

Now, I love rail transport more than anybody, but let's see Amtrak for what it is, a big old government flimflam. It can never be profitable so long as some senator decides that some middle-of-nowhere whistlestop town in his state needs service and forces a long, unprofitable line out there so that he can 'create jobs' and 'guarantee service'. Do you know what creates jobs? The free market! Do you know what guarantees service? Supply and Demand!

Give me the rail system of this country and remove these foolish restrictions, and I could be making money hand over fist by next year! Otherwise, they should start funding Amtrak like the socialist entitlement they want it to be, along with their "public school system" and other such nonsense.
