Okay, it's times like these that I really miss Forum 3000, since I might have actually gotten a helpful answer from it. But, in its absence, I shall ask you all.
In a nutshell: a "friend" decided to hook me, a junior, up with her friend, a senior, for prom. At first I figured it'd be too awkward since I don't know the person at all, so I said no. But after debate with another friend, I decided to ask said "friend" if I could discretely get the girl's number, in case I decided to ask her. Well, she told the girl that I'd be asking her to prom, and now I'm really thinking that this is pushing the boundaries of my doing-a-favor-as-a-nice-guy limits. However, I'm supposed to talk to her tomorrow after the last available time to buy tickets for prom. So I either have to buy the tickets, or not buy them, and either ask her or talk to her about it, respectively. Since I'm leaning towards not asking her, I need to know how I can gracefully decline the offer.
