So I just rated a 3.8 post a 4, and that jumped it to 4.25. Shouldn't it no longer be called an "Average Rating", since that implies some sort of mean function, however weighted?

No, because the rating is calculated by a weighted mean function.

I feel we've been very clear on this point, but APPARENTLY some of you in the back of the class just refuse to pay attention.

I really don't know how I'm going to get you through the "Let's Make A Deal" problem in the next chapter, but I guess that's why this is a weed-out class.
