So today I got 512 more MB of RAM for a sweet $50. My computer now performs worse, instead of the expected better. It works faster, but locks up every 5 minutes of being online. One of my friends once said that hings get... dicey after 512 MB. Should I believe him? Everything I know about pointers says the only problems would be 64K, 1 MB, and 4 GB. Why does my computer perform worse, Conversatron?

Windows 98 reports errors with more than 512MB physical memory due to faulty VCACHE drivers.
In fact, all of the Windows 9x systems are pretty unstable all together. No such problems in Windows 2000 or XP tho!

You can work around it by changing using the MaxFileCache setting in the System.ini file to reduce the maximum amount of memory that Vcache uses to 512 megabytes (524,288 KB) or less.
