So - if somebowy were thinking of doing a theme for you, exactly what elements are required?

An excellent question, and I think I'll use it to clear the air a little about themes.

In the beginning the site was grey and green, much like it is now, only with more junk in a second column on the right.

It wasn't too long before we got it in our heads that "dressing up" for holidays would be a nice change of pace.

Completely ignoring the knowledge accumulated in 50 years of writing software, we embarked on a massive copy-and-paste campaign to one-off a putrid pink mess that's better left unlinked in the archives.

The response was overwhelming!
You guys hated it. We couldn't let such a great source of spite pass us by, so we dove in some more themes, again with a massive copy-and-paste campaign.

We were glad to give out icons in exchange for art for themes, and we ended up with some decent holiday decorations.

Skip ahead to today, and we have much more manageable theme code. Simple themes, like "crayon", can be slotted in with little more than changing a settings file, and more complicated themes are possible by editing template files instead of code.
Lord Amazorn
Now, this is all well and good, but Christ people! Jiggling crayons? Green and brown crap? What the hell are you guys thinking?
Lord Amazorn
From now on in order to submit a theme we'll need to see some credentials. An appropriate MFA degree, a portfolio of previous web design you've done, some of you have previous high-quality themes to back you up. Something. Anything.

I mean God, if I wanted this site to look like clown vomit I'd just give Krusty a bottle of Wild Turkey and the keys to the server room.

Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed today?
Or did you sleep on the floor?

Krusty the Klown
So yeah, about that bottle...
