Why can't musical notes be in increments of 5Hz or something more... normal? I don't like my middle C being 261.63Hz, it needs to be 240Hz or something similarly not-so-freakish.

You could always define your own frequency measure based on some new unit, say, the "Buzz", so that Middle C = 1000 Bz or something.
This would have the added effect of people not knowing what the hell you are talking about.
Not that you particularly need any help in that department.
