The Topic: Chocolate

Dodger
Is theobromine (the substance that makes chocolate bad for pets) not really harmful to humans because of our size, or is it something else that makes it a common food for humans, a poison for pooches?

It's actually more complex than simple weight ratios. Domesticated animals actually metabolise theobromine at a much slower rate than humans. This is where the danger lies.

A large 400 gram chocolate bar is enough to potentially kill an average-sized Labrador retriever. Extrapolating, if humans were at similiar risks, 2 or three king-size Snickers could do you in.

In fact, in order to kill a human, it would require a Snickers bar 35 feet long weighing...

Well, let's just say it would be a pretty big Snickers bar.
