See, but here's the thing - water is very unusual in that when it changes from its liquid to its solid state (ice) it is actually LESS dense than it is as a liquid, due to the structure of the water molecules and the way they bond. So while water expands when heated from a liquid to a gas, when heated from a solid to a liquid, it actually in effect contracts.
One would expect Dr. Spengler to have remembered such an oft-touted fact of basic science.
