Rather than actually coding a GTK-based application which should have taken me only one hour, I've spent the past week researching the best and cleanest way of properly architecting this GTK-based application so that, should there ever be any reason to extend its functionality beyond being a simple GUI wrapper for a trivial commandline utility, there will be no problem with ensuring its future extensibility.
I love a good drawn-out project.
