I have just hit a problem so difficult I really need advice. I am currently 2/3rds the way through a big programming project and I've just noticed that my solution is a long way from optimal and that there is a far easier way to do a whole lot of the program. Do I move to the new design and possibly take a whole bunch longer but have something that works faster and doesnt thrash jdbc:odbc connections nearly so hard, or stumble on with my current design and get it finished but live with the niggling knowledge that it could have been better?

This is indeed a difficult decision. It is hard for us to say without having more information. Is this a personal project, or something commercial. Is there a time constraint factor? Are you one of those people who will toss and turn at night, knowing that your way was not the best way, or can you simply forget, or perhaps drink away your troubles?
