Was there ever any behind the scenes communication or some reason why they evinced such hatred of the 'tron? I found that very odd; was there an explanation, or were they just a bunch of paranoid motherfuckers?

I think it was just that they were paranoid, yes. And mean-spirited.
Well, there is the fact that we pretty much ripped them off totally and without remorse.
Oh, and some of the ASKEEs kept mercilessly spamming them with questions about the Conversatron.
But other than that, mostly paranoia. And meanspiritedness.
Oh, and I ran over one of their server farms.
But other than that. They just seemed to have it out for us.
