The shield around the planet is not a symbol for anything, it is a way to keep SCARY MONSTERS from attacking our planet,.

We do not have communisim on our planet, but that may be because anyone who would try to hold a hammer and sickle would immediatley be dragged down to the depths.

I'd never thought of that before, the slave shield as a methaphor for Communism. But I can see your point. You could also draw parallels between the Hierarchy and the Soviet Warsaw Pact nations, and the Alliance as a NATO-analogue. Yes, that is a very interesting theory.
