What's your favorite Angband variant? For that matter, what's your favorite roguelike? I'm a big fan of ADOM, but there haven't been any changes in a while. Right now, I'm sort of tinkering with the code to Majik 4, which is a MUD/roguelike hybrid.

What about from a player's point of view?

It's a toss up between Omega and the newer NetHack's with quest levels and all. But I think NetHack is getting too complicated for its own good.

I never really got into Nethack. The whole geek humor thing threw me off.
