The Topic:
Dark City

The Question:

Any opinions on this film? I for one really liked it. I like Alex Proyas's work, it's always dark and somewhat surreal.

Responses:
Roger Ebert
That movie worked for me on multiple levels. I was astounded at the inventiveness of it. 3/4 of the way through, where most directors would put a car chase or gunfight, this movie had leasurly trip in a rowboat!! This was VERY clever, and flew in the face of conventional Hollywood film making. Just for that I'll give it two thumbs up, stick both of them up my ass.

Whoah there, Ebert. I think you've been reviewing too many gross-out comedies lately or something.

They're the only thing that drown out Siskel's incessant murmering in my ear.

And they're the only thing that'll get Harry Knowles' fat, fanboy ass off my goddamn balcony.

The Wachowski Brothers
We liked Dark City so much we stole pretty much everything in it to make The Matrix.

Good thing nobody saw Dark City, or the world would know what hacks we are.

The Wachowski Brothers
Ha ha ha ha!

The Wachowski Brothers
Ha ha ha ha... ahh, but seriously, did we decide how much of The Matrix II will be "bullet time"? I can't remember if we decided.

The Wachowski Brothers
I think we decided on 45%. We can probably push that up to 68% or so by Matrix III.
